Cooking in previous years proved to be the most "äbsentee" word in my vocabulary. I have to admit, I love to eat, my family and friends can second that - but cooking? no. Lately though, I developed the passion to cook the food I want to eat, as well as gradually making the kitchen equipped with whatever I need. Here's what I found funny yet cute about learning how to cook:
You'd spend to get a certain ingredient mentioned in the recipe - not knowing there are alternatives :)
I have 6 kinds of spices in the cupboard in less than a month when previously, I don't even remember if we had salt. :)
You tend to overdo it and put something more than what's said on measurements and stuff.
I spend half an hour standing in front of the "Spices" section of the grocery store.
I don't use measuring cups / spoons - I just "swish" and "swash" with my hand.
When it's my first time to cook a recipe, I don't want anybody else near my work place :)
I always let my sister taste first and wait for what she says :)
Anyway, today is chicken day. The only time I eat chicken wings is when they're fried.
At last I found a way to perk up whatever drink I have at home without going out and buy the expensive mocha whatever by popular coffee shops like..... you know what I mean :) so on my way home, I dropped by baker's depot and found some tiny bits of specially made sweets to make my chocolate more interesting.
Pour in :)
Played a little with the chocolate syrup
While I'm posting this blog, I can still smell the sweet tasting syrup I had just poured on my serving. Tonight is pancake night. This has been one of my easiest, fastest and most delicious recipe cooked in a span of only 25 minutes. A breakfast "regular" but then I did it for dinner.
Fresh Strawberries
While strawberries aren't my favorite, I've found a new way to incorporate them to pancakes, one of my favorites. This is in order to make it useful especially during their season.
This... This burger is "Kim's Burger". I started cooking out of just wanting to gain more knowledge in the intricacies of cooking and since then, I've been able to put something different to the table - and now, my sister has been bugging me to do whatever kind of burger. After she tasted the S'piggy I bought from Bapchi, she thinks every single burger, sandwich or whatever you call it will taste juuuuust like it :) (It didn't, but this one was gooooood)
Everything's homemade, from the creation of the burger patty all the way to the "semi" cooking of the onions.
My special serving - all for me!
Kim :D my ever loyal critic
Thank you Laura for all the tips, it helped all the way..
My very own Chicken Picatta. I'm not a great cook - I have to admit that, but somehow, I always end up giving justice on recipes I have used as a guide in creating one of a kind dish. Today, I finally able to cook this recipe - a recipe that I have been visiting almost every other day on this website. http://purposedrivenchef.com
The outcome of my 2 hour battle in the kitchen
I didn't even know a certain "Worcestershire sauce" existed.. I can't even pronounce it :D
Mussels is probably one of my favorite seafoods, besides it's cheap - they are indeed delicious. Through the years, I only knew one way to cook them and that's musssel soup. I was talking to a friend yesterday when she came on a different idea to cook it with pasta and the finished product? Steamed mussels with pasta :) yum
uI got home early today and decided to cook noodles for dinner thinking it would be the easiest and least work of all. I was wrong... I had the busiest preparation ever, not to mention keeping my fingers crossed about the taste.
Again, today I tried something new. Deviled eggs. A recipe I should have cooked last new year, unfortunately forgotten. I may not give enough justice on what was taught but at least I tried.. :D
Today, I thought of finding a recipe that will make my sister and brother eat Okra. Whenever my mom cook some delicious "pinakbet", I never fail to see some Okra on one side of their plate so.. here's my first attempt to cook the Southern Fried Okra.
Fried Okra
a bit of chilli stuffed soy
And as a compliment to the cook, my brother loved it :)
I cook in so many ways we can eat a meal, but not exactly what you call a hearty one, but through the years, as I came to read blogs about food - talked about loving food, watching my mom cook and constantly talking to a friend who can tell me how to cook a certain food in its simplest way - I thought I should try.
